The LetterS pace Department (TLSD) is a multi-vocal artistic entity, both character and institution. Its identity is deliberately fluid: the Department’s name shifts homophonically with each context or situation—The Ladder Space Department, The Latter’s pace Department, The Letter Space Department, and others—mirroring the instability, porousness and orality at the core of its practice. A self-reflexive stance positions institutional structure as both material and subject of investigation.

TLSD treats text as both material and source—language as spatial, acoustic, and relational matter. Drawing on psychoanalytic discourse it seeks poetic leaps by attending to what slips, falls between, or resists containment.

Working between archival inquiry and speculative fiction, TLSD collects fragments—texts, images, objects, sounds—that haunt the unstable spaces of interpretation. Held in suspension, these materials take shape only when activated through the sites and situations that receive them.

TLSD’s practice exists as collections and unfolds through sound installations, lecture-performances, site-specific interventions, and publications.
