Video installation, 2 channel audio (on headphones)
4m18s
2025
Shown in solitesse at SB34 Concorde, alongside Fabiola Burgos Labra, Masao Mascaro & Reinier Vrancken.
Curated by Léane Lloret.
The video shows the skyline of Brussels with The Hotel and the Palace of Justice as two shady protagonists. The two-channel audio contains two live versions of Elvis Presley’s Are You Lonesome Tonight?, from which the voices are isolated and the music has been erased. The voices start out echoeing eachother, but quickly turn into an uncanny conversation, when Elvis’ words unhinge, his tongue slips and the persona falls into the person, heading into the spoken bridge. A conversation arises between two buildings, voiced by Elvis. The image has been mirrored, so that the subtitles can only be read from the other side of the window. There’s a split between the voice (sound) and the text, between what is heard and what is read.
